Valerian, The Legendary

Chapter 119

After he finished his food, he walked over to check her, but apart from the fact that her breathing was stable, he did not know anything. So he turned to look at the magical bookshelf, however, none of the books recorded anything related to dragons.

Fallax appeared behind him and said, “Never judge a book from its cover, but you are correct, they do not record anything about the medical conditions of the dragons. Humans have no knowledge about this, Dragons are almighty beings, they do not fall sick. She will not wake up for a week at least. It will take some time to digest that core.”

Valerian was still in pain so he did not care about replying to the old man, and just picked up a book and began reading. Fallax walked over and smacked the back of his head gently and said, “Did you not understand that you need to take a break? Blind pursuits only lead one astray.”

Valerian closed the book and asked, “Then what shall I do, you tell me.”

Fallax was confused and avoided his gaze, he spotted the scroll and picked it up before reading it. Then he said, “The opportunity is laid in front of you, yet your blind self cannot see it? Fragrantia did not convey it to you in your language.

You do not become strong by socializing, but when you have the strength you have a standing in society. Yesterday, that girl from Sapientia dared to look down on you, why? It is not because you are not strong, but you are limited and restricted to violence. A beast will never be recognized by humans, despite its strength.

Do you understand Valerian?”

Valerian still did not wish to bow down and take a break from his training and he said, “Did you not just say that Dragons are the almighty beings? Do you defy the fact that Dragons are the beasts revered by humans and beasts alike?”

.....

He was not being whimsical but stating facts. However, old ginger was still spicy.

Fallax nodded and said, “Indeed, they are revered, but why? Have you ever thought about it? Well, let me tell you, because, dragons are versatile. They are strong, can use all the attributes, they have innate skills and innate magic, yet, they seek excellence. Some of the most skilled artifact grandmasters, alchemists, and magic formation masters were dragons.

They are not called divine beings for nothing, the artifact blessed by the dragon god is not only fought for its powers, but for the status, it holds in comparison to any artifact existing in the world. Now, do you understand? You are talented, not skilled.

But, you have the talent to be skilled. Whether you want to be that or not is up to you. I don’t want to waste my breath on you stubborn mule. To think I had high expectations from you.”

Fallax might not have spoken this much in the past decade, but this was needed to wake up the boy from his blind pursuit of power. If this hunger was not sated, then Valerian will become a killing machine, who will one day fall under the weight of his own blade of hatred.

The old man did not want such a talented boy to turn bitter and burn everything he touches. When he was done talking, the old man shook his head and vanished from his place. He could not force Valerian, that will only make his bitterness even deeper.

Valerian kept looking at the spot where the old man stood for a bit and sighed. He decided to give it a try. With that thought in mind, he first decided to find the infirmary of the academy to get rid of the bruises on his person. He had never been outside, so he did not know where he could find the infirmary.

He thought that if he did not know about it, the other students must know about it, so he walked over to the magical tower lane. Seven towers encircled the battlemage tower. It was still just a few minutes after breakfast time, and Valerian found the street bustling with students.

He spotted a young man in a golden tunic, so he approached the person, and said, “Excuse me, Senior.”

His voice was calm and crisp, it caught the attention of a few people. They all recognized him, not from his face, but from the bland, black, and silver uniform. The young man asked, “What is it?”

He was not curt but not too polite either. Valerian did not care about the attitude of the person and asked, “Senior, can you please tell me where can I find the infirmary?”

The man was surprised and then he said with a chuckle, “Hahaha, little brother, you asked the right person. Come along, I am heading to the infirmary.”

Valerian found it strange and observed the man carefully. He then asked, “Senior brother, you do not seem to be unwell, or hurt. Why are you going there? Are you a curer?”

Curer was the profession of a mage proficient with the attribute of light element. They were akin to doctors, and apart from curing, they had a deeper knowledge of human anatomy too.

The young man noticed his surprised and cautious behavior and scratched the back of his head as he replied, “I am not a curer, yet. One needs to be a grade six at the minimum for that. I am just in grade four. Though, I am an intern. If you do not mind, you can follow me, or go to the light magic tower on your own. Someone will guide you about the process there.”

Valerian found this explanation within the norms and he nodded and said, “Pardon my cautious behavior, please lead the way.”

He bowed slightly to the young man. Valerian did not care about anything else, but Diligentia has told him, that if one was in the wrong, then they must not hesitate in bearing the responsibility.

The young man let out a slight smile and then led Valerian to the light magic tower. Behind the tower, a two-floored building stood. It was painted in blue and white, looking like a barn, but the insignia of the sun hanging above the door clarified that this place was the infirmary.

Valerian followed the young man, who said, “Forgive me, I did not introduce myself. I am Hazel Medicus.”

Valerian replied, “My name is Valerian D... Verus, Valerian Verus.”

The child was not used to pronouncing his full name and almost uttered Divinus. However, his facial expression did not change preventing Hazel to notice anything out of the ordinary. They both went inside the barn-like building.

This place was reeking of herbs. Valerian could tell that not all injuries were treated with magic. Hazel led him to the counter right in front of the entrance, and said, “Sister Yena. This is Valerian, he needs help. Please look after him, I am off to class.”

Hazel turned around and said, “Valerian, this is sister Yena, she is the face of our Sanatorium, and also a grade one curer. She will take care of you. I will see you later.”

Valerian bowed to him in thanks and the young man left in a hurry. Then he turned to look at the person in front of him and asked politely, “Good morning, Sister Yena. Can you take a look at my bruises?”

Yena was a beautiful lady and she had a very calm and gentle aura about her. If not for her face, Valerian would have thought that Diligentia was sitting in front of him.

The lady behind the counter asked him in a soft tone, “How did you get hurt?”

Valerian replied, “Training with the master.”

Yena nodded and then said, “You see this corridor? Go in and look for Curer Astillia in the fourth room on your right. She will help you.”

Valerian bowed in thanks and left the place. He followed the path told to him by Yena and found the fourth room on the right-hand side, and knocked on the side of the door before entering.

A lady was sitting behind the table, with some papers in her hands. She said, “Come in.”

Valerian walked in and found an old lady sitting in her chair. He bowed slightly and said, “Greetings Ma’am, are you Sister Astillia?”

The lady raised her head to cast a gaze at the boy. She checked him out and so did Valerian. After scrutinizing them, the lady gestured for him to sit down in front of her and asked, “How may I help you?”

She liked the manners this boy had just displayed. Valerian asked, “Umm, I got hurt while training, can you take a look, please?”

“Sure, why not? Show me.”, said the lady.

Valerian sighed and thought, this was a new experience for him gradually, he relaxed. He was here not to cure only his bruises but hoped that something might be able to cure the wounds in his heart as well.
