Chapter 2 Are You Threatening Me?
"The only thing he needs to know at this point is that I will be moving in 2 days. And, Bolin, don\'t be late." Mr. Fang said and directly ended the call, just as the elevator doors opened.
Bolin who was dressed in an official suit, glanced at his phone screen before putting it inside his pant, and turned to the older man in the driver\'s seat to say, "You heard him right? Press down on the speed pedal."
The driver followed as commanded and stepped down on the accelerator.
By the time they got to the apartment building, Mr. Fang had already finished dressing and was having a cup of coffee. When Bolin keyed in the password to his door and let himself in, Mr. Fang was already standing in front of him with raised brows.
The Mr. Fang standing right before his personal assistant, looked a little bit identical to the same person who got out of bed with his pair of deep-set brown eyes on display, and disheveled dark brown hair which fell towards his forehead.
There was a drastic change in the style. Currently, Mr. Fang had framed glasses hiding his beautiful eyes, and his hairstyle was different, which made him look more mature.
Bolin knew he was a bit late and quickly apologized.
In the elevator, Bolin gave Mr. Fang a brief rundown of his schedule for the day before adding, "Sir, Old Madam failed to reach you on the phone and had to call me instead."
"Oh! What did she say?" Mr. Fang asked, unfazed by the report. In fact, he looked like he was not interested.
"She is asking when you will come home." Bolin spilled with a slight bow.
Mr. Fang shifted his gaze to him and said with furrowed brows, "In the future when she calls to ask about me, tell her that I am slammed with work and would return her calls later."
Bolin looked like he was in a dilemma while hesitating to speak the words in his heart. He had wanted to ask for how long the trick would work, but at the thought of that award-winning death glare from his Boss, he made up his mind to keep his lips sealed.
In the car, When Mr. Fang had settled down in the back passenger seat of the black Rolls Royce, Bolin got into the front passenger seat before instructing the driver, "To NYU."
The driver nodded and ignited the engine of the car, and drove them away from the luxurious apartment building.
In a room in one of the biggest Hospitals in S City, Zhang Liling lay on the bed and watched her blood flow through the tubing and into a drip bag which was almost filled up. She looked a bit impatient after she moved her gaze to the watch on her wrist.
"How much time until you decide to take this needle off my wrist?" She asked in an annoyed tone as she shifted her gaze to the nurse standing at the side.
The nurse took a step forward and had only opened her lips to speak when the door to the room was pushed open by a doctor, who appeared with Shi Wenqian.
"Don\'t be in a hurry to leave, there is one more bag left to fill." Shi Wenqian said with a harmless smile.
"Don\'t push it!" Zhang Liling said in a harsh tone. She was thinking about how to meet up with her class as time was no longer on her side, and here she was asking her to fill up another bag with her blood. But her stepmother didn\'t find her tone fun.
"Did you by any chance just raise your voice at me?" Shi Wenqian asked with a hideous smile. Although the corner of her lips had arched upwards, that was not a real smile.
"Even a cat knows when to bite back when its tail has been stepped on." Zhang Liling retorted.
"I see…" Shen Wenqian trailed off with a skeptical gaze on her. There was no longer any form of a smile on her face.
Not wanting to be delayed further, Zhang Liling tried to negotiate with her. "If you want another bag of blood from me, then you will have to wait till evening when I return from school, but before then, ask the driver to send me off to school."
Shi Wenqian chuckled hard at her request before asking, "What makes you think that your demands are relevant?"
Zhang Liling ignored her taunts and went straight to the point, "Because if I get to school a second late and miss my first lecture for the week, forget about getting my blood again, I will also make a big case out of this!"
"Are you threatening me?" Shi Wenqian asked with a wicked gaze. If there were some things she hated, being threatened was part of it.
A few minutes later, Zhang Liling was sitting in the back passenger seat of a car while munching on some sweets. Even when she got what she asked for, she was still clearly unhappy.
She even said to the driver, "You have to cross your speed limit and take me to school on time otherwise if I\'m late and miss my lectures, you will bear the consequences of me not giving out my blood for the second time today"
When the driver heard this, his feet immediately touched down on the speed pedal.
Before leaving the hospital premises, Shi Wenqian had instructed him not to go above the speed limit no matter what because she wanted Zhang Liling to miss her first lecture.
And as the Madam, he had no choice but to listen to her. But here was Zhang Liling threatening to make him take the blame for such a huge crime. He feared for his life and immediately stepped on the accelerator.
In his mind, he hoped that his life would stop being a bargaining chip between Zhang Liling and her stepmother.
Seeing that he had increased the speed of the car, Zhang Liling scoffed and went back to eating the sweets. She felt a little faint after giving out that much blood and needed to replenish it.
For a moment, she regretted making that kind of negotiation, but this was Mr. Fang\'s class, and she couldn\'t trade it for anything.
With that thought, a smile finally bloomed on her face after a long while.
