Chapter 333 - 333: Tacit Understanding
The captain knew that Ren Wei would easily confess that he had attacked He Wei because on the surface, this incident seemed to be beneficial to He Miao. However, once it involved a deeper conspiracy, he would not admit it easily without key evidence.
However, he did not expect that Jing Yan had already seen through everything.
At noon, Jing Yan took advantage of He Miao’s afternoon nap to tell the captain about his rough guess. He also took the initiative to hand in a copy of the video Xu Ling had taken in the hospital.
The information that the police had now far exceeded Ren Wei’s imagination. When they brought the mother and son back, they also sent out enough men to carry out a thorough search of Ren Wei’s house and a few nearby places where it was easy to hide people.
Soon, Xu Ling was successfully rescued. The place they found was a house that Ren Zhong had given when Ren Wei was admitted to university.
After the captain received the news, he contacted the staff at the scene to send a photo back for Ren Wei to see. “Don’t hide it anymore. We’ve already found the person. Since you said you don’t know her, does that mean that Ren Zhong did this?”
“No!” Ren Wei was so anxious that beads of sweat were dripping down his forehead. He muttered, “No, it wasn’t my brother. Don’t look for my brother, it’s me! It was all my own idea!”
The captain narrowed his eyes and sent a message to Jing Yan on his phone. He then stared at Ren Wei sternly. “Then tell me, what have you done?”
“1,1 kidnapped Xu Ling!” Ren Wei kept making excuses for himself in his mind in a panic. “Because 1 heard her talking rudely to my goddess! 1 can’t stand it, so 1 kidnapped her and made her suffer!”
“Is that so?” The captain sneered. He was too lazy to talk nonsense with him. He showed him the surveillance video that Xu Ling had taken. “Do you still insist on what you said?”
Ren Wei was sitting on a chair in the interrogation room with his hands cuffed to the armrests. If not for that, he would have fallen under the table in shock.
He stared blankly at the rippling water in the glass and shook his head hard. “I didn’t know she took this. What does it mean? I was the one who injured He Wei. If her injuries are too light, it can only mean that this is my first time committing a crime and I have no experience. Other than this, what else can it mean?”
The captain sneered and completely lost his patience with him. “Do you think that if you don’t say anything, we wouldn’t know that He Wei is actually not injured at all?”
“I…” Ren Wei continued to argue, but a drop of sweat flowed into his eye. He blinked his eyes in pain and his voice was filled with sobs. “I’m sorry, can you help me wipe my sweat?”
The captain leaned back in his chair and raised his chin, signaling the police officer beside him to do as he was told.
After wiping his sweat and helping him put on his glasses again, he managed to calm down. He took a deep breath and said, “1 think I did hurt her, but if not, maybe 1 was too nervous and didn’t pay attention. Officer, if she wasn’t hurt, could I go home?”
“There’s also the matter of abduction!” The captain slammed the table. He was tired of talking to this ignorant and stupid boy.
He opened the door of the interrogation room and walked outside. He found a quiet place and called Jing Yan.
“How is it?” Jing Yan was reading the company’s report while talking to him.
The captain sighed and said, “There’s nothing we can do. However, the evidence is conclusive. Ren Wei can’t run away for sure. However, it’ll be a little difficult if you want to drag Ren Zhong down. That kid is refusing to rat out his brother now. 1 don’t know what kind of bewitching potion Ren Zhong has fed him.”
“What other potion can it be?” Jing Yan sneered and turned his head to look at the pretty girl beside him. “Isn’t it just a bottle of bewitching potion called He Miao?”
“What are you saying?” He Miao was reading a book, and when she heard him call her name, she looked up in surprise.
“It’s nothing,” Jing Yan lowered his head in amusement and continued, “It’s not that easy to get Ren Zhong off his horse. I’ll handle the rest in my own way. If you can’t find anything else, you should close the case as soon as possible. Don’t get too involved and get yourself involved.”
The relationships between the aristocratic families were complicated, and it was hard to say what other connections Ren Zhong had that could suppress the captain. If Ren Zhong were to continue to investigate the matter without any evidence, he was afraid that it would ruin his future career.
The captain knew this very well, and that was why he had been keeping in touch with the Jing family. It was a win-win situation, and the Jing family could provide him with a lot of benefits. Also, the Jing family had always been honest and had never done anything illegal.
This was the most fundamental reason why he was at ease to keep in touch with the Jing family.
The captain agreed tacitly. “Okay, then I’ll leave this to you. I’ll close the case depending on the situation. After I’m done getting the statement, I’ll let Xu Ling go back..”
